Deep Tissue
Massage
What is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep tissue massage involves applying firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). It's used for chronic aches and pain and contracted areas such as a stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.
It involves the manipulation of "soft tissue" (connective tissue that has not hardened into bone or cartilage). This includes skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia, which is a form of connective tissue that lines and ensheathes muscle. Deep tissue massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused by holding poor postures, repetitive or strenuous physical activity and stress.
